Synopsis
Continues the story of Gintama Season 2
Following a year-long absence, Shinpachi Shimura makes his way back to Edo and immediately encounters something that leaves him reeling: Gintoki and Kagura, his partners in the Yorozuya odd-jobs business, have morphed into unrecognizable versions of themselves! Retreating from the Yorozuya headquarters in utter confusion, Shinpachi discovers that the entire population of Edo has been subjected to absurdly drastic alterations, both in how they look and how they behave. The most staggering of all is that his sister Otae has tied the knot with Isao Kondou, the Shinsengumi chief and notorious unapologetic admirer, and is now expecting their first child. Thrown off balance, Shinpachi agrees to enlist in the Shinsengumi at Otae and Kondou's urging, only to uncover an endless string of even more bewildering changes within and beyond the organization's ranks. Yet when he realizes that Vice Chief Toushirou Hijikata has somehow stayed exactly the same, Shinpachi and his unexpected Shinsengumi comrade set their sights on bringing Edo back to the way they remember it. Packed with even more crude humor, cheeky parodies, and unapologetic callbacks, Gintama' trails the Yorozuya crew through more of their chaotic exploits in the lively, alien-infested streets of Edo.
In this installment
While Gintoki Sakata is away, the Yorozuya gang gains a new leader in Kintoki, a golden-haired doppelganger of Gintoki. To get his old position back, Gintoki needs help from the people around him, but that proves difficult when no one can recall his existence. The rivalry between Kintoki and Gintoki raises the question of who will ultimately take the spotlight as the main character. Meanwhile, the Yorozuya returns to the red-light district of Yoshiwara to assist an elderly courtesan searching for her long-lost lover. Although the district is no longer chained beneath the earth, the trio soon uncovers the tragic histories of Yoshiwara's residents that still linger. Through numerous flashbacks, the Yorozuya witnesses enduring love and strives to protect it with all their hearts and souls. Gintama': Enchousen delivers moments of intense action alongside the usual lighthearted, slapstick humor that Gintoki and his companions are known for.
