In the futuristic, alien-populated city of Edo, Gintoki leads the Yorozuya team—comprised mainly of Shinpachi and Kagura, who often feel like overworked employees—taking on various odd jobs to make ends meet while avoiding overly dangerous situations. Their routine is disrupted when Katsura, the Joui rebel leader and an old friend of Gintoki, disappears after a brutal attack by an unidentified assailant. Shinpachi and Kagura begin looking into Katsura’s disappearance and the attacker’s identity. Meanwhile, Gintoki takes on what appears to be an unrelated task: retrieving the Benizakura, a powerful and enigmatic sword that was recently stolen, for the blacksmith Tetsuya. As both investigations progress, they intersect, drawing the Yorozuya into a complex conspiracy involving the malevolent origins of the Benizakura. Determined to face the threat directly, Gintoki plans an assault on the enemy’s stronghold with the aid of some surprising allies, setting off on one of his most perilous missions.
