Summary
Murata Tetsuko is a swordsmith residing in Edo and the daughter of the renowned blacksmith Murata Jintetsu. She is also the younger sister of Murata Tetsuya, though both her parents and sibling have passed away. Known for her shy and withdrawn demeanor, Tetsuko initially struggled to greet Sakata Gintoki properly when they first crossed paths during the Benizakura arc. Despite her quiet nature and habit of speaking in a relatively low voice—unlike her brother, who suffered from a hearing impairment—she possesses a kind heart. This was evident in Episode 61 when she intervened to save Gintoki from Nizou. Throughout the series, she has assisted the Yorozuya on multiple occasions. During the Itou arc, she appeared again when the group visited her alongside Hijikata Toushirou, who was cursed by a new blade. In Episode 102, she demonstrated extensive knowledge of swords by explaining the history of the hikikomori-possessed weapon that was plaguing Hijikata. Later, in manga chapter 303, she joined the citizens in fighting for the Kabuki District during the war.
