Summary
Mitsuba Okita serves as the older sister to Sougo, having raised him ever since their parents passed away during their childhood. Sougo holds Mitsuba in the highest regard, displaying an uncharacteristically polite and docile demeanor whenever he is in her presence. She is well-acquainted with the rest of the Shinsengumi and frequently brings them extra-spicy senbei, a snack she personally enjoys. Her health is compromised by tuberculosis, necessitating regular medical treatment that Sougo previously funded with his own money. Mitsuba harbors romantic feelings for Hijikata; while it is revealed that he reciprocates these feelings, he maintains a cold distance because he believes he cannot offer her happiness. Her character is roughly based on Okita Mitsu, the sister of Okita Souji. In historical fact, however, it was Okita Souji who suffered from tuberculosis.
