2150 AD. The conflict against the silicon-based Festums from outer space enters a new stage. Fragments of the North Pole Mir are scattered across the globe, eventually beginning to act independently as separate Mirs. Most of them despise humanity and launch attacks, yet some choose to coexist with humans. Similarly, within the human race exist individuals who are both human and Festum, sharing the same mindset. These beings add further chaos to the battle and generate even more hatred. This is the sequel to Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor, taking place two years after the events of Heaven and Earth.

As the final phase of Japan's unification approaches, Hideyoshi Toyotomi sets his sights on the last bastion of resistance: Odawara Castle, defended by the formidable Ujiyasu Houjou, known as the "Lion of Sagami." Leading Hideyoshi's troops are his elite commanders, including Mitsunari Ishida, Kiyomasa Katou, and Masanori Fukushima, along with other key figures such as Yoshitsugu Ootani, Sakon Shima, and Kanetsugu Naoe. The Sanada clan also sends its young members into the fray—the elder brother Nobuyuki and the younger brother Yukimura. As the siege draws to a close, Yukimura charges alone into the battlefield, and his brother Nobuyuki quickly follows suit in the assault.

In "Aki no Kanade," Aki Miyagawa has treasured the sounds of traditional Japanese drums since her childhood. As a professional drummer based in Tokyo, she finds it challenging to maintain her passion while working a second job to support herself. A phone call from Michio Yoshioka, her former drum teacher, gives her an opportunity to return to her hometown and reflect on the journey that brought her to her current situation, rekindling her enthusiasm for music along the way.

At Death Cram School, a letter arrives containing an invitation to a spa resort. Yumi announces to the four excited girls, "No. This is evil itself," and points out that they have been slacking off too much. Shiki proposes, "When opinions are divided, it's time for boob rock-paper-scissors!" and wins, so everyone heads to the pool. There, girls from Hanzoo Academy, Homura Crimson Squad, and Hebijo Clandestine Girls' Academy also show up, but Asuka says, "Let's have fun together today," and they agree to a temporary truce. However, a trivial matter leads to a bitter quarrel, and at Yumi's suggestion, they settle it with a showdown in the style of the ancient shinobi.

Three OVAs of Hoozuki no Reitetsu will be released as limited editions bundled with volumes 17, 18, and 19, on February 23, 2015, May 22, 2015, and August 21, 2015, respectively.

An alien named Aron from the planet Pokkuru witnesses their incredible powers and requests their aid to rescue their world. Upon reaching Pokkuru, the group initially believes everything is part of the Burger Director's simulation, but they soon discover they are genuinely fighting real villains.
