Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199

Synopsis

In the year 2199, Earth has been left in devastation, its once-thriving environments completely wiped out by relentless attacks from the Gamilas Empire. The remaining population of humanity survives in underground cities, struggling to endure the deadly radiation. Yet a glimmer of hope appears: the planet Iscandar holds the Cosmo Reverse System, a device capable of restoring Earth's destroyed surface. To obtain this crucial technology, the Earth Defense Force commits its last resources to the Yamato, an advanced warship powered by an infinite energy source called the Wave Motion Engine. The Yamato's crew consists of a diverse group, including the young Tactical Officer Susumu Kodai and the seasoned Captain Juuzou Okita. Though their combat experience varies, they all share a single mission: to survive the dangerous 168,000-light-year journey to Iscandar and rescue humanity from certain extinction.

Background

The series will be sold in the same theaters that show the Yamato movies on the same days, i.e. a simultaneous release. The first two episodes of the TV series (which is the same as the OVA series) were pre-aired on the Family Gekijou cable and satellite channel on 6th and 7th of April, 2012. The rest of the episodes was aired on MBS & TBS beginning April 7, 2013.
