彩雲国物語
Synopsis
In "The Story of Saiunkoku," Shuurei Kou is a brilliant young woman from a noble but financially struggling family who dreams of serving her country as a government official, an ambition barred by the prohibition against women in such roles. While her father works a modestly paid position as a palace archivist, Shuurei supports their home through various part-time jobs. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she receives an unexpected summons. Shuurei is asked to assist Ryuuki Shi, the newly crowned emperor, who is known for his indifference to his duties and his preference for male companionship. Enticed by the substantial reward, she accepts the role of Ryuuki's consort for six months. With the support of Seiran Shi, her loyal companion who serves as Ryuuki's bodyguard, Shuurei works to transform the immature emperor into a capable leader. Alongside this mission, she navigates the complex web of court life and politics, facing numerous challenges. Set in a fictional world, "Saiunkoku Monogatari" explores the nature of effective leadership, the challenges it entails, and the benefits of a prosperous state.
