As the General of the Shaorin army, Shuuei belongs to the Ran family, one of the two most powerful clans. He is the fourth eldest of five brothers and a highly skilled swordsman who typically maintains a calm demeanor, though he enjoys teasing those around him. When Ryuuki vanished, Shuuei and Kouyuu were left to guard the Emperor in the library for a month, a situation that left them bored out of their minds. At eighteen, Shuuei took the Imperial Civil Exam, securing second place as a Bogen, and later transferred to the Yulin Guard. He claims to be Kouyuu’s best friend, a sentiment Kouyuu consistently denies. Shuuei often provokes Kouyuu by mocking his lack of direction and woman-hating ideals.
