Synopsis

In Akame ga Kill!, Night Raid, a secret assassination unit serving the Revolutionary Army, dedicates itself to toppling Prime Minister Honest. His corrupt reign has plunged the nation into poverty and chaos by exploiting a young, inexperienced emperor. Despite their lethal capabilities, the squad members recognize that killing is not a noble pursuit and bear the heavy moral burden of their work as they fight to dismantle the government. Tatsumi, a humble villager seeking to aid his struggling home, joins Night Raid after being moved by their mission and resolve. The story tracks Tatsumi's struggle against the oppressive empire, where he faces formidable foes, rival assassins, and difficult ethical dilemmas, eventually discovering the true significance of being an assassin driven by justice.

Background

Akame ga Kill! is the anime adaptation of Takahiro's shounen manga of the same title, which is illustrated by Tetsuya Tashiro and was serialized in Square Enix's Gangan Joker from April 2010 to December 2016. The anime follows the source material through the first eight volumes of the manga, incorporating events from later issues as well, before concluding with an original story arc that deviates from the manga.
