Continues the story of Higurashi: When They Cry – Rei
In Hinamizawa, the string of mysterious murders that once plagued the town has been resolved, thanks to Rika Furude and her companions, bringing the cycle of fate to a close. Rika believes she has finally attained the quiet, normal life she always desired alongside her friends. Yet her newfound joy is disrupted when destiny begins to move once more, triggered by a tragic occurrence. Rika awakens in what seems to be an "ideal" world where the cycle of violent deaths never took place, and everyone she cares about is content and fulfilled. Although she is reluctant to let go of the reality she fought so hard to create, she realizes she must remove a certain "key" in order to return to her original world. Can Rika turn away from this perfect existence, after all the struggles she endured to get this far?
In this installment
In the secluded mountain village of Hinamizawa, Rika Furude and her companions welcome new transfer student Keiichi Maebara in June 1983, making him the sole boy in the group. The friends spend their days playing games and treasuring their time together. But Keiichi begins to notice something off about his new friends, who appear to be concealing dark secrets regarding the village. A distant observer watches these disturbing events unfold and recalls prior iterations of this story and its variations. Armed with that memory, the observer attempts to repair the fractured realities. However, as certain details shift, they come to a terrifying realization: they have no clue what will happen next or how to avert the oncoming disaster.
