Summary

Ryuuguu Rena is the primary female protagonist of the question arcs and a resident of Hinamizawa who relocated from Ibaraki one year prior to the story’s events, placing her in the same grade level as Keiichi. Born on July 28 with a height of 161 cm, she is characterized by a gentle demeanor and a tendency to care for Keiichi whenever possible, though her naïve nature often subjects her to light teasing. It is implied later in the series that she harbors romantic feelings for him. Rena is best known for her intense obsession with things she deets as adorable, referring to them as kaaii, a slurred variation of the term kawaii. She frequently seeks out these items, particularly moekko characters or discarded objects found while scavenging at the local dump, even if others do not share her appreciation for their cuteness. Her speech patterns are distinctive, often punctuated by the exclamation hau when she is excited or flustered, and she habitually ends sentences with kana? kana?? to express uncertainty. A significant portion of her routine involves treasure hunting in the town’s trash heap in search of collectibles. When she spots an item that catches her interest, she declares her intention to take it home, entering a state where she becomes virtually unstoppable and comically enhanced in both strength and speed. Despite this quirky trait, Rena possesses sharp observational skills. For instance, during the Watanagashi-hen arc, she successfully deduced that both Rika and Satoko had visited the Sonozaki residence by analyzing the contents of their refrigerator and a nearby flier.
