Maebara, Aiko

Summary

Maebara Aiko serves as the mother of Keiichi Maebara and appears alongside her husband, Ichirou, during the Onikakushi-hen arc. Although she is scarcely featured in the anime adaptation, where her face is habitually obscured, she makes various appearances throughout the manga versions. In Tatarigoroshi-hen, Keiichi discloses that she is an avid reader of detective fiction, consuming crime novels from writers globally, including works by Agatha Christie such as And Then There Were None and Murder on the Orient Express. She has also authored a crime novel and participated in a related contest. Aiko casually explains the concept of a perfect crime to Keiichi—specifically the rule that the "introduction" should not begin—which aids him in his plot against Houjou Teppei. According to Ooishi, she graduated from a humble women's university.
