Three years have passed since the gateway to the Digital World closed, and Taichi Yagami along with his friends have matured while pursuing their own goals. Now a high school sophomore, Taichi feels growing pressure to decide his future, as his once tight-knit group gradually drifts apart due to differing interests. Suddenly, a rogue insect-like Digimon named Kuwagamon disrupts the city's electronics, prompting Taichi to chase after it. Trapped by the Digimon, Taichi's Digivice begins to glow, and Agumon reappears. Together, they defeat Kuwagamon, but many questions remain unanswered: why did this Digimon enter the human world, what is happening in the Digital World, and how does the new transfer student Meiko Mochizuki fit into these events?

Amid a new crisis where Digimon, digital creatures, are becoming more aggressive and powerful while invading the human world, Maki Himekawa and Daigo Nishijima—members of the mysterious Incorporated Administrative Agency—are working to understand these events. Most of the Chosen Children are busy preparing for Tsukishima General High School’s upcoming summer festival. Having just returned from the United States, Mimi Tachikawa struggles to reconnect with both her classmates and the other Chosen Children. Meanwhile, Jou Kido focuses entirely on his studies, deliberately avoiding anything related to Digimon, which causes his partner Gomamon to leave. Despite the growing threat from infected Digimon, the choices made by Mimi and Jou create tension within their group. Can they resolve their personal issues in time to help their friends face the escalating danger?
