Five death row inmates from the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and Russia escape their prisons and converge on Tokyo, each seeking to test their strength against the world's most powerful fighters. Seventeen-year-old Baki Hanma, a skilled martial artist, dedicates himself to intense training in hopes of surpassing his father, the legendary Yuujirou Hanma. Though he grows weary of his school responsibilities, he finds comfort and support in his deepening relationship with Kozue Matsumoto. His relatively peaceful life is disrupted when these dangerous criminals begin displaying their deadly abilities across Tokyo. To confront this growing threat, Baki joins forces with yakuza member Kaoru Hanayama, his rival Retsu Kaiou, mentor Doppo Orochi, and experienced jujitsu practitioner Gouki Shibukawa. Together, they resolve to hunt down and defeat their formidable opponents. Amid this dangerous mission, Baki also takes on the responsibility of protecting Kozue from these new enemies, while continuing his quest to earn his father's acknowledgment.
