In Chainsaw Man, Denji longs for a simple life with the girl he loves, but his hopes are crushed when the yakuza force him to hunt devils to repay an enormous debt. Using his devil companion Pochita as a weapon, Denji does whatever it takes to earn the money he needs. However, his fate takes a sudden turn when a devil working for the yakuza kills him, seeing him as expendable. To Denji's shock, Pochita merges with his dead body, granting him the powers of a chainsaw devil. Able to transform parts of himself into deadly chainsaws, the revived Denji cuts down his enemies with brutal efficiency. His new ability soon catches the attention of professional devil hunters, leading to his recruitment by the Public Safety Bureau. Despite his enhanced power to face the most dangerous threats, Denji still clings to his childhood dreams.

Background

Chainsaw Man ranked fourth and first in the 2020 and 2021 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for the Male Readers division, respectively. The series was nominated for the 13th Manga Taisho Award in 2020. It won the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award in the Shounen category, along with Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san. As part of the JUMP START initiative, the first three chapters of Chainsaw Man were published in English in VIZ Media's digital Weekly Shounen Jump on the same day as the Japanese release. It has been published digitally as an English simulpub through MANGA Plus. The volumes have been published in English by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint since October 6, 2020. The manga has also been published in German by Egmont since October 6, 2020, and in Italian by Planet Manga since July 22, 2021. The first part of the series ended with 97 chapters on December 14, 2020. Serialization of the second part began on Shounen Jump+ with the release of chapter 98 on July 13, 2022.
