Synopsis
Tied by a mysterious link, five of the world's deadliest prisoners escape from their respective jails and converge at Mitsunari Tokugawa's arena, driven by a shared craving for defeat. To satisfy this urge, Mitsunari pits them against Baki Hanma, a 17-year-old fighter hailed as the victor of "the most historic tournament ever," along with four other specially selected combatants. An immediate five-on-five match is organized with no limitations, allowing battles to occur anytime and anywhere. Each contestant is eager to measure their power against formidable adversaries, leading to an unconventional, unrestricted competition that spills beyond the arena into the heart of Tokyo.
Background
Baki: Most Evil Death Row Convicts Special Anime was bundled with the limited edition 14th volume of Baki-dou. However, the OVA does not adapt from Baki-dou; rather, it adapts from the story arc of the same name featured in Baki: New Grappler Baki. The OVA serves to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original manga series and marks the franchise’s first original animation in over 15 years. Around the OVA’s release, it was announced that a full television anime adaptation would follow suit. Canonically, Baki: Most Evil Death Row Convicts Special Anime succeeds the 2001 anime series Grappler Baki; it precedes the 2018 Netflix original net animation Baki.
