Shibukawa, Gouki

Summary

Gouki Shibukawa is a sixty-year-old master of the ancient jujutsu arts practiced by the samurai of feudal Japan, having trained since the days prior to World War II. His fighting style utilizes the aiki principle, which leverages an opponent's attacks against them. During the Maximum Tournament, he advances to the semi-finals, defeating Roger Harlon in the first round, Shinogi Koushou in the second, and Doppo in the third, before ultimately losing to Jack Hammer in the fourth round. He also engages in a friendly spar with Biscuit Oliva and fights Mohammad Ali Jr. In his third match against Doppo, Gouki displays insane behavior during combat and claims to have killed many people. He later allies with Baki to confront the Japanese convict Yanagi Ryukou in the 'Search of Our Strongest Hero' series. Outside of battle, he is eccentric, somewhat senile, and fearless, choosing to live each day without fear. Although he is recognized as a master of old-style jujutsu and represents that discipline when fighting Doppo, most of his techniques resemble Aikido, and his appearance mirrors that of Gozo Shioda, the founder of Yoshinkan Aikido.
