In the virtual reality game Yggdrasil, players are granted extensive freedom to explore and customize their gaming experience. However, in 2138, the game is set to shut down at midnight. Momonga, a dedicated player of Yggdrasil, chooses to spend his final moments in the game within his guild hall, Ainz Ooal Gown. When midnight arrives, instead of being logged out, he finds himself transported to a world that mirrors Yggdrasil. He soon realizes that the NPCs have become self-aware. Trapped in his avatar's skeletal form, Momonga must uncover the reason for this occurrence and search for other players. Determined to take control of this new world, he relies on his loyal followers to achieve his goals.
