In a world where magic is woven into the fabric of existence, Asta, a loud and energetic orphan, is born without any magical power. Yet he aspires to become the Wizard King, the highest rank a mage can achieve in the Clover Kingdom. His childhood friend and rival, Yuno, wields formidable wind magic, setting them apart despite their shared dream. Facing this vast gap, Asta subjects himself to grueling physical training every day, hoping to unlock any latent magical ability and close the distance between them. At age 15, citizens of the Clover Kingdom receive a Grimoire, a vital tool for fully harnessing their magic. During the ceremony, Yuno obtains a Grimoire adorned with a legendary four-leaf clover, signifying immense power, while Asta is left without one. Overcome with disappointment but refusing to give up, Asta witnesses Yuno being abducted by a mage who seeks to steal Yuno's unique Grimoire. Though utterly outmatched by Yuno's captor, Asta's unyielding determination to fight back ultimately grants him his own Grimoire—one marked by an unprecedented black five-leaf clover.

Black Clover was simulpubbed in English as a part of VIZ Media's Weekly Shonen Jump lineup and through MANGA Plus. The publisher has been physically releasing the series under their Shonen Jump imprint since June 7, 2016. It has also been published in German by Tokyopop and in French by Kazé since September 7, 2016.
