In the midst of the Middle Ages, people live in perpetual fear and suspicion, with the term "Yoma" spoken in hushed tones. These monstrous beings are known for their insatiable hunger for human flesh and their terrifying ability to transform and assimilate the memories of those they consume, turning everyone into a possible enemy. The sole defense against Yoma are the warrior women known as "Claymore," who are part-human and part-Yoma themselves. Sent out to eliminate Yoma from afflicted villages, their lives are solitary and dangerous, with each assignment potentially being their final one. Between missions and lengthy travels, they battle their own Yoma tendencies to maintain their humanity. Despite their crucial role, the villagers they protect do so begrudgingly and view them with disdain. The story centers on Clare, a disciplined and low-ranked Claymore, as she embarks on a challenging journey driven by a personal vendetta. Throughout her odyssey, she uncovers hidden truths about the world, including the bonds and optimism among her fellow Claymores and the dark secrets concealed within the Claymore Organization.

Background

Claymore was published in English by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump Advanced imprint from April 4, 2006 to October 6, 2015. A complete box set of the series was released October 20, 2015. It was also published in Spanish by Glenát España since December 2006, publishing 21 volumes until Glénat went bankrupt. The series was continued by Norma Editorial until its final volume in September 2015; and in Italian by Star Comics from June 9, 2005 to June 13, 2015.
