Set before the events of the 'X' television series, this story follows Kakyou, a lovely youthful dreamgazer confined to bed, as he recollects the life and demise of an extraordinary girl he encountered within his dreams. Additionally, he relates his visions of a sorrowful future where Earth's destiny hangs in the balance.

Amid the conflict between the Heavenly Dragons and the Terrestrial Dragons, the clairvoyant Princess Hinoto foresees the end of humanity. At the heart of this turmoil stands 15-year-old Kamui Shirou, who must decide whether to align with the Terrestrial Dragons—seeking to destroy civilization in order to protect the planet—or the Heavenly Dragons, who aim to preserve human life. Returning to Tokyo after six years away to fulfill his mother’s final wish, Kamui attempts to retrieve the Sacred Sword from a temple guarded by Kyougo Monou, the father of his childhood friends Fuuma and Kotori. When he fails to obtain the sword, a mysterious figure manages to steal it. Believing Kamui to be the one her prophecy foretold, Hinoto dispatches the Heavenly Dragons to recruit him. Though he initially refuses, the Terrestrial Dragons’ relentless attacks on those close to him force Kamui to choose between saving his loved ones and deciding the fate of the Earth, ultimately leading him to side with one faction.
