Shirou, Tooru

Summary

Tōhru Shirō, originally Magami by birth, serves as the mother and shadow sacrifice for Kamui within the Magami clan. Her fate unfolds in Okinawa, where she perishes in a fire that consumes the home she shared with her son. The anime clarifies that her death was a necessary sacrifice to delay or mitigate the disasters destined for Kamui before the promised day. In contrast, the manga explains that she acted as a sacrifice to prevent the planet’s premature destruction. Hinoto attributes this intense, fiery demise to the concentrated effects of global warming on the Earth. Although Tōhru was originally slated to bear the first Sacred Sword, Saya ultimately took her place. Just before her death, she was finishing a phone call with the former Chairman of Clamp Academy, and it was at that moment that the effects of her role as a shadow sacrifice began to ignite her flesh. This tragic event occurs just before the start of the first manga volume, prompting Kamui to return to Tokyo after a six-year absence. In the movie adaptation, she meets a similar end by burning to death, but manages to pass her Sacred Sword to Kamui and deliver her final words, urging him to travel to Tokyo for the final battle and revealing information about the Dragons of Heaven and the Dragons of Earth. Within the X Tarot set, she and her sister symbolize The Tower.
