Synopsis

Continues the story of X²: Double X

X²: Double X is a short prequel running two minutes and forty seconds to the theatrical release of X. It forms part of a set of four music videos in the series. The first three videos feature static images drawn from CLAMP's X artwork produced before 1994, interspersed with live-action footage. The final video, created by Madhouse, is unique in being the only one with a story. This segment introduces the main characters and quickly covers the opening chapters of the X manga, following the same events as the first three episodes of the X anime series set before the movie.

The fate of the universe hinges on a single decision by Kamui Shirou, who must choose to destroy either the Dragons of Earth or the Dragons of Heaven—two opposing armies. His choice alone will decide whether humanity should be wiped out to bring about a purified universe or safeguarded to preserve civilization. Two oracles, the sisters Hinoto and Kanoe, foresee the arrival of the Dragons and each predicts a different outcome. They each gather allies and resources to ensure their own vision of the future comes to pass. Yet neither sister realizes that one man wields power even greater than the Dragons, and that he will ultimately decide the planet's fate. Which sister's prophecy will come true, and what role does Kamui play in their conflict? The answer will shape the destiny of all humanity.
