In Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yuugi Mutou is a quiet and innocent high school student with a passion for games. While visiting his grandfather's game shop, he stumbles upon an ancient Egyptian artifact called the "Millennium Puzzle," which is said to grant any wish to whoever solves it. Hoping to find companionship, Yuugi dedicates himself to completing the puzzle. After many years, he finally succeeds and discovers that his wish has come true. Meanwhile, a card game called "Duel Monsters" is growing in popularity, where players compete using monster cards alongside magic and trap cards to outmaneuver their opponents. Yuugi quickly becomes skilled at the game and enjoys a peaceful life with his new friends. However, this tranquility is short-lived. Seto Kaiba, an undefeated duelist and arrogant tycoon, kidnaps Yuugi's grandfather to force him into a duel for the coveted "Blue Eyes White Dragon" card. This incident pulls Yuugi into a world of fierce competition, where the stakes rise as malevolent forces begin to interfere. With unexpected help from a mysterious pharaoh's spirit residing in the puzzle, Yuugi defeats Kaiba and earns the unofficial title "King of Games." This recognition attracts envious rivals, forcing Yuugi to use his wits and determination to protect what he holds dear.

GX follows Juudai's pursuit of his dream to become the King of Games. Through countless strange and extraordinary events, one thing is certain for Juudai and his friends—life at Duel Academy will never be dull.
