Synopsis
Kaito Kuroba is an ordinary high school student whose father is rarely home. After his father dies under mysterious circumstances, Kaito learns the man's hidden identity: the world-famous phantom thief known as International Criminal 1412. He also finds out that his father was murdered by a secret organization because he refused to help them retrieve the Pandora Gem—a mystical stone said to shed a "tear" when a particular comet, often called the Volley Comet, passes by, and consuming that tear grants immortality. Vowing to stop the organization from obtaining eternal life, Kaito takes on his father's persona and begins his search for the gem. His only clues are that the stone glows red beneath a full moon and that it is a doublet: a smaller gem hidden within a larger one. That means it must be a relatively large jewel with a strange history, kept in a place that never receives moonlight. He therefore investigates and steals famous, priceless gems with odd pasts from incredibly well-guarded locations, and always returns them after the very next full moon.
