In Magic Kaito, Kaito Kuroba is an ordinary high school student until his father's sudden death reveals a hidden truth: his father was the internationally wanted criminal known as International Criminal 1412, the Phantom Thief. A secretive group assassinated him in their pursuit of the legendary Pandora Gem, a stone that sheds a tear during the passing of the Volley Comet and grants immortality to anyone who drinks it. To stop the organization from achieving eternal life, Kaito adopts his father's persona and sets out to locate the gem. Evidence suggests the Pandora Gem is a red-glowing doublet visible under a full moon, concealed within a larger, historically significant gem kept away from moonlight. Consequently, Kaito begins meticulously stealing precious gems with unusual histories from highly secured locations, always returning them before the next full moon.
