School Glow-Up Romcom Kusunoki Locks TV Anime at Passione × Hayabusa

High school reinvention just scored a studio green light. DMM Pictures has confirmed a television anime of Mitsuki Mii’s Kusunoki's Flunking Her High School Glow-Up (Kusunoki-san wa Koukou Debut ni Shippai Shite Iru), the comic POOL / Ichijinsha romcom about two former wallflowers whose makeovers hide unfinished social business.
Production lands at Passione × Hayabusa Film. Midori Yui directs and handles series composition, Koji Haneda designs the characters, and chart-friendly composer Hyadain scores the show. Leading the cast are Yuto Uemura as Keisuke Shizuki—the boy who polished himself after middle-school heartbreak—and Tomori Kusunoki as Shizuka Kusunoki, the campus beauty still flailing at friendship.
The pitch is pure clumsy chemistry: Keisuke wants a quiet second chance; Shizuka begs him to coach her through “friend mode,” all while his pretty-girl panic and old classmates threaten the whole reboot. A teaser visual and promo film dropped with the announcement; a broadcast window is still TBA.
Mii’s series has run since October 2022, with volume 8 due July 28 in Japan and Kodansha USA handling English releases. Free sample chapters are live through early August as the campaign kicks off.
