Set in a tumultuous pre-war Shanghai, this prequel to Fist of the North Star follows the enigmatic "King of Death" as he navigates the city's perilous streets. The 1930s in Shanghai are marked by treachery and chaos, as foreign governments and Chinese factions divide the city into distinct zones, each governed by its own rules and plagued by corruption. Amidst power struggles for control, local gangs dominate the streets, where human life holds little value and death is an omnipresent threat. Long ago, a solitary warrior named Yan Wang, also known as the "King of Death," patrolled these dangerous streets, combating evil forces. A master of the deadly Hokuto Shinken, or Fist of the North Star, his true identity remained a mystery to most, though his prowess was well-known. After eliminating the city's most notorious criminals, he vanished years ago, reportedly heading to Japan. Now, numerous individuals seek to find him in Japan, but who will be the first to uncover his whereabouts?

Background

Souten no Ken was first published in English as Fist of the Blue Sky in the manga anthology Raijin Comics, published by Gutsoon! Entertainment, from December 2002 (issue #0) to July 2004 (final issue #46). Four collected volumes, also published by Gutsoon! Entertainment under the Raijin Graphic Novels imprint, from June 18, 2003 to March 1, 2004, were released before the publisher became defunct.
