Heinrich, Albert

Summary

Originally from Germany, Albert and his fiancée Hilda tried to flee to West Berlin by posing as circus performers. In the manga version, Albert drove a truck carrying an animal cage where Hilda, dressed as a lioness, remained alongside a real lion; however, the 1980 film and 2001 series depict Hilda as his co-pilot instead. Albert’s escape attempt ended in disaster when he forgot to retrieve his forged identification from a guard, causing him to panic and accelerate. Border guards opened fire, injuring Albert and killing Hilda. Black Ghost agents arrived and falsely promised to transport him to a hospital. Upon awakening as a cyborg in the 2001 series, Albert fell into deep despair, exacerbated by severe physical pain and strain from his modifications, which also triggered suicidal tendencies. This instability forced Black Ghost to suspend the cyborg program for decades, placing existing cyborgs in suspended animation until technology advanced enough to create more stable soldiers.
