Lupin III

Summary

Lupin III, the grandson of Arsène Lupin, stands at 179 cm and weighs 63 kg, with a birthday falling on February 10 as revealed in The Castle of Cagliostro. He is widely regarded as the world’s most wanted thief, often using his gang to thwart more serious criminals. Though he sometimes feigns incompetence to catch opponents off guard, he is a master of escape, having broken out of jail numerous times. His greatest weakness is his infatuation with Fujiko Mine, which frequently leads him into trouble. In Monkey Punch’s original manga, Lupin is cocky, crude, and largely remorseless, acting as a ladies’ man who exploits women for his own gain. This contrasts sharply with his anime portrayal, where he is a chivalrous goofball who helps the less fortunate. While he considers himself a Casanova, his success with women varies depending on the writer. Despite betrayals from allies like Fujiko and Goemon, Lupin remains fiercely loyal, dropping everything to help his crew when they are in peril. He also holds Inspector Zenigata in high esteem as a respected friend and rival, a sentiment Zenigata returns by vowing never to kill him. Lupin’s vendetta against the Tarantula Gang stemmed from their betrayal and near-murder of Zenigata. Lupin values the thrill of the heist over possessing the treasure, often losing or discarding stolen items if they rightfully belong to others. In his downtime, he enjoys dating, fishing, race car driving, formal dinners, pool, casino gambling, and café society. He favors French cuisine, sushi, and seafood, though he eats ramen on jobs. He also has a fondness for galettes, as seen in Lupin the Third Part V. A smoker of Gitanes cigarettes, cigars, and kreteks, he occasionally uses a briar pipe in the manga. Lupin is a celebrated race car driver and a skilled sleight of hand artist, using gimmicks like exploding confetti cigarettes and spring-loaded boxing glove guns to befuddle his enemies.
