Saeba, Ryou

Summary

Standing at an imposing six-foot-four, Ryou Saeba serves as the central figure in City Hunter. He is a highly skilled combatant with a background as a guerrilla fighter in various unnamed conflicts, alongside extensive experience in the underworld. Armed with a Colt Python, his enigmatic history traces back to being the sole survivor of a plane crash in Central America during his early childhood. This tragedy left him orphaned in a rebel village amidst a civil war, forcing him to master survival and combat at a young age. Consequently, details regarding his true lineage or birthdate remain unknown, though Kaori Makimura arbitrarily designated March 26 as his birthday, marking the day they first met. Following the conflict, he traveled to the United States to work as a mercenary before eventually settling in Tokyo, Japan. There, he established the "City Hunter" agency alongside Hideyuki Makimura, Kaori’s brother, setting the stage for the events of the series. A defining characteristic of Ryou is his intense and constant sexual arousal, particularly evident in the manga where he notes experiencing erections at the mere sight or thought of sexual subjects. This trait drives him to frequently flirt with, attempt to seduce, or openly harass women he finds attractive. His behavior is so pronounced that he even disregards orders from male clients unless the request deeply resonates with him emotionally. While he is capable of composing himself and acting professionally when the situation demands it, adaptations of the story often tone down this aspect, presenting it in a more subdued, albeit still exaggerated, manner.
