Great Britain

Summary

Great Britain, whose true identity remains a mystery, hails from the United Kingdom. Before his transformation, he was a celebrated and gifted stage actor with encyclopedic knowledge of theatrical productions. In the 2001 TV series, he was romantically involved with a fellow actress named Sophie, but as his fame grew, he gradually abandoned her. Plagued by mounting financial difficulties, the once-renowned performer eventually descended into poverty, becoming a destitute individual willing to do anything for a drink or a cigarette. Black Ghost agents exploited his vulnerable state, easily luring him into their vehicle with an offer of alcohol. After escaping alongside the other cyborgs, Great Britain returned to the UK and discovered that Sophie had a daughter named Rosa. Suspecting she might be his own child, he attempted to connect with her, but she rejected and scorned him, believing he had betrayed Sophie. Redemption only came at the end when he replaced a lead actor in Rosa’s play, ultimately earning her friendship. As 007, he possesses the remarkable ability to alter his cellular structure at will, enabling him to transform into any object, creature, or person he desires. In the 2001 series, he even demonstrated the capacity to grow to titanic proportions. His exceptional acting talents allow him to blend seamlessly with enemies, facilitating stealthy maneuvers and attacks. Despite being the oldest of the second-generation cyborgs at the time of his kidnapping in his late forties, 007 is arguably the most lighthearted member, possessing a highly amiable personality. Reflecting his role as comic relief, a recurring gag features him taking the form of a precocious, almost super deformed, child who acts like a spoiled brat, fearing for his life even during combat. In the 1960s anime adaptation, he was depicted as a child to appeal to a younger demographic. While creator Shotaro Ishinomori initially opposed this change, he later temporarily mirrored it in the manga by having Gilmore alter 007’s body to make the child form his standard appearance. His nationality and number serve as a clear reference to Ian Fleming’s iconic British spy, James Bond.
