Synopsis

Continues the story of The Rising of the Shield Hero

In the kingdom of Melromarc, which suffers from recurring disasters known as the Waves of Catastrophe, four ordinary men from modern Japan are summoned to save the realm. Each is bestowed a legendary weapon: a sword, a spear, a bow, or a shield. Among them is Naofumi Iwatani, an otaku who becomes the Shield Hero. Armed with only a weak shield that offers low attack power and a forgettable appearance, he faces mockery and contempt from both the other heroes and the populace. Although he initially receives supplies and allies, his sole companion, Malty Melromarc, eventually betrays him by falsely accusing him of assault. This results in severe discrimination and hostility toward Naofumi. Filled with bitterness and distrust, he resolves to grow stronger and prove his innocence. The overwhelming loneliness of his journey leads him to purchase Raphtalia, a critically injured demi-human slave, as his partner. With the Waves of Catastrophe threatening Melromarc, Naofumi and Raphtalia must fight to protect the kingdom and safeguard its inhabitants from destruction.

As the next Wave approaches, Naofumi Iwatani and his party are gripped by growing unease. Tensions spike when bat-like monsters attack Lurolona Village, halting the Wave countdown. To address this crisis, the Four Cardinal Heroes meet with Queen Mirelia Q Melromarc. She suspects these strange events are tied to the reawakening of the Spirit Tortoise, a dangerous beast that has begun its destructive rampage once more. While strategies to combat the Spirit Tortoise are drawn up, Naofumi volunteers to help, despite his damaged reputation.

Background

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Season 2 was set to premiere in October 2021, but was postponed due to various reasons. The series was released on Blu-ray and DVD in three volumes from July 27, 2022 to September 28, 2022.
