Summary
Raphtalia is a Tanuki-type Demi-Human who became the first true member of the Shield Hero’s party after Naofumi purchased her as a slave. When first introduced, she appeared as a child with long, unkempt hair and a dirty cloth gown. Upon acquiring her, Naofumi provided a bath, cut her hair to a manageable length, and purchased appropriate attire for her adventures. After several weeks of traveling together, Raphtalia’s body underwent an inexplicable transformation, causing her to rapidly develop into the appearance of a teenager or young adult. This sudden physical growth was later explained as a result of demi-humans maturing in direct correlation to their level progression.
