In November 1998, a double murder takes place at the newly built Ogawa apartment complex in central Mifune City. The culprit, Tomoe Enjou, flees the scene in a state of panic. Strangely, the police show no interest in pursuing him, and the crime receives no coverage from the media. After Shiki Ryougi steps in to rescue Tomoe from some attackers, he lets Tomoe stay at his place. A few days later, Tomoe is shocked to find out that his mother is still alive, despite being certain he had killed her. At the same time, Mikiya Kokutou looks into a lead given by his colleague Touko Aozaki concerning the bizarre murder at the Ogawa complex. As Mikiya digs deeper into the incident, he becomes especially curious about Tomoe. His further investigation into Tomoe reveals the unsettling reality behind the eerie Ogawa complex. As the fifth installment in the Kara no Kyoukai movie series, Mujun Rasen weaves together a complex mystery with recurring themes and characters to deliver a dark and intellectually stimulating narrative.

In this installment

During winter break, strange events occur at Reien Girls' Academy. Azaka Kokutou, a student and apprentice mage, is sent by her master to investigate. She discovers another mage is using fairies to steal students' memories. These fairies are invisible to Azaka but visible to Shiki Ryougi, an acquaintance with exceptional eyesight, so Shiki is brought in to assist. Despite initial friction between them caused by Azaka seeing Shiki as a romantic rival, the fairy situation worsens, revealing deeper layers to the mystery. Azaka must set aside her personal feelings and work with Shiki to save their fellow students.
