Ryougi, Shiki

Summary

Ryougi Shiki is a teenage girl who recently regained consciousness after a two-year coma triggered by a traffic accident. Born into the Ryougi family, she possesses the "Mystic Eyes of Death Perception," a supernatural ability that enables her to perceive the death of any object and destroy its origin. The Ryougi lineage typically raises children with dual personalities: a male persona known as SHIKI, referred to as the "yang" personality, and a female persona known as Shiki, or the "yin" personality. These two identities are easily distinguished by their speech patterns, with the female Shiki using the pronoun watashi and the male SHIKI using ore. Upon waking, Shiki finds that she can no longer sense the presence of the male SHIKI, leading her to believe he perished in the accident. She also experiences a profound detachment from her pre-accident memories, knowing intellectually that she is Shiki but lacking the emotional connection to that identity. To cope with this void and attempt to reclaim both her former self and the deceased SHIKI, she adopts a cold demeanor that mimics the female Shiki’s personality. Touko recognizes this detachment as a significant shift, classifying the current version of Shiki as a distinct, third personality rather than just the original female persona.
