Knights of Sidonia

Synopsis

In the distant future, after the alien Gauna wiped out Earth, the surviving humans who escaped aboard enormous seed ships traveling through space still face constant pursuit. In 3394, Nagate Tanikaze, who has lived his entire life alone in the depths of the seed ship Sidonia, emerges from below in search of food. His journey brings him to the center of unfolding events. When the Gauna attack Sidonia, Tanikaze joins forces with his comrades and friends—Shizuka Hoshijiro, Izana Shinatose, and Yuhata Midorikawa—to protect what remains of humanity and fight their extraterrestrial enemies. "Sidonia no Kishi" follows Tanikaze's discovery of the world that has always existed above him and his transformation into the hero Sidonia needs.

Background

Sidonia no Kishi was nominated for the Animation of the Year Award in the Television category at the 2015 Tokyo Anime Award Festival. The anime's opening song, "Sidonia" by Angela, won the 19th Animation Kobe Theme Song Award in 2014.
