Summary
Nagate Tanikaze serves as the central protagonist of the series. Initially, he struggles to adjust to the unique customs of Sidonia, frequently breaking laws and facing rejection from other humans because he is unfamiliar with their cultural norms. Over time, however, he evolves into the ship's primary defender and the savior of its population. He operates a reliable, albeit older, Guardian mecha known as Tsugumori. In stark contrast to the genetically engineered Sidonians who derive most of their energy from photosynthesis and only require a single daily meal, Nagate is a pure human. Consequently, he must consume substantial amounts of food to meet his nutritional and energy requirements.
