Synopsis
In a world torn apart by a thirty-year conflict with the alien BETA, which began their invasion in 1973, high school student Takeru Shirogane awakens from a troubling dream depicting humanity's total annihilation. He comes to understand that these visions are actual memories from an alternate universe where the Alternative V plan was enacted, sending hundreds of thousands of people into space to preserve humanity while condemning those left on Earth to a tragic end. Determined to change this grim future, Takeru enlists at a military base in Yokohama, which was once his school. There, he persuades Professor Yuuko Kouzuki, the vice-commander and head of the Alternative IV project, to stop the implementation of Alternative V. To make Alternative IV succeed, Takeru must train alongside his classmates to pilot Tactical Surface Fighters (TSF), giant humanoid mechas. With only two months to prepare and using his limited knowledge of what lies ahead, Takeru strives to prevent the impending catastrophe.

Muv-Luv Alternative adapts the first six chapters of the visual novel of the same name, which is the third and final part of the Muv-Luv trilogy.
