Synopsis
Narumi Katou, a middle-aged man afflicted with the mysterious ZONAPHA Syndrome, suffers from uncontrollable seizures that can only be temporarily eased by laughter. At his workplace, he comes across a young boy named Masaru Saiga, who is fleeing from three adults while carrying a large suitcase. Masaru reveals that he has inherited Saiga Enterprises following his father's death, and that rival family members are trying to kill him to claim the fortune. Determined to protect Masaru, Narumi helps him escape their pursuers, only to discover that these attackers are human-like puppets with extraordinary strength. Just as Narumi is about to be overwhelmed in the fight, a white-haired girl appears, summoning another puppet from Masaru's suitcase and identifying herself as Shirogane, his guardian. Karakuri Circus centers on these three individuals from different backgrounds, whose fates become intertwined and transformed as they uncover the secrets behind an ancient story of love and betrayal, along with the enduring struggle between humans and puppets.
