Akiyama, Wataru

Summary

Wataru Akiyama is one of the initial drivers from Saitama to challenge Takumi in his turbocharged Levin, later appearing in Fourth Stage where he swaps the turbocharger for a supercharger to achieve more linear acceleration. A skilled pilot who refined his technique on the dangerous Shomaru Pass, he travels to Gunma to test himself against new opponents and keep an eye on his sister Kazumi, who has taken a job at a hotel run by her aunt. He returns in episode 9 of Fourth Stage as Nobuhiko’s cousin, observing Takumi’s race against the Northern Saitama Alliance to identify any vulnerabilities. Wataru subsequently competes against Keisuke Takahashi in rainy conditions but is defeated after his tires lose traction while he adjusts his wipers on a metal gutter. Later, he encounters an impostor Project D in Saitama and assists the genuine team in exposing the frauds.
