Summary

Kai Kogashiwa is a street racer from Tochigi Prefecture and the son of Ken Kogashiwa, a legendary Downhill ace and rival of Bunta. Ken mentored Kai in racing from a young age through karting, leading Kai to specialize in midships. Before moving to street racing, he was the fastest motorcyclist on Irohazaka. Much like Takumi on Akina, Kai’s specialty on Irohazaka stems from his residence at Lake Chuzenji at the summit and his daily commute down the mountain. Kai challenged Takumi on Irohazaka, the Emperor's home course. After defeating Seiji Iwaki of Emperor, he targeted Kyoichi but focused on Takumi following Sudo’s defeat. Using a maneuver taught by his father, Kai attempted to overtake Takumi by jumping a turn through a gap in the guardrail at the 33rd corner. However, he spun out on the final straightaway after losing traction from landing on leaves, resulting in his defeat. Kai later reappeared as an opponent for Project D in Kanagawa Prefecture. Representing Racing Team Katagiri in a downhill race against the Eight-Six, he spun out in the final sector and lost. Originally driving his father’s Toyota SW20 MR2, Kai eventually switched to a silver Toyota MR-S ZZW30, leaving the SW20 to Ken.
