Pokémon are incredible beings that come in many types and sizes, with abilities, powers, and personalities as varied as they are abundant. Doctor Yukinari Ookido has devoted his life to researching these fascinating creatures, which can be caught, trained, traded, and pitted against one another in battles. However, there is only so much he can achieve from his laboratory. Therefore, Ookido gives two young boys a Pokémon of their own and a computerized encyclopedia to record them. One boy, Green, is impulsive, hotheaded, slightly conceited, and also Doctor Ookido's own nephew. The other boy, Red, is equally passionate and filled with a wide-eyed, mildly innocent sense of wonder.
Pokémon: The Origin follows Red on his journey across the Kanto region as he strives to finish his "Pokédex" by capturing and logging every existing Pokémon. Along the way, he will realize that there is more to both himself and his ambitions than he initially believed. Red must test himself and his Pokémon in special Gyms whose leaders are milestones on the path to the Pokémon League, so he can challenge the Elite Four and become a Pokémon League Champion.
Beyond his goal of becoming Champion, Red faces other brewing troubles. There are those who capture and train Pokémon for darker purposes, including the notorious criminal syndicate Team Rocket. If Red can overcome them, fellow trainers, his rival Green, and wild Pokémon across all of Kanto, he may achieve his own dream—and Doctor Ookido's as well.
