The initiative seeks to introduce new Paralympic sports heroes by developing compelling characters and narratives through the joint efforts of prominent manga artists and animation film directors. The roster of featured sports is planned to expand by 2020. An episode produced by Kyoto Animation was originally set to air in August 2019, but its broadcast was later canceled after it was announced that production could not be finished in time for the 2020 Paralympic Games, following the tragic arson attack on the studio.

The story is set on Screw Island, a country shaped like a screw, and centers on the Vocabot named Heybot and his partner, Prince Nejiru, as they go around gathering different Vocab Screws. When these screws are placed on a Vocabot's head, they enable participation in Vocab Battles—contests where competitors vie to come up with and deliver the funniest jokes.

The fourth season follows Suzuki Iruma and all thirteen members of the Misfit Class, who must put on a performance at the Music Festival in order to achieve Rank 4.

Within Yoshiwara's red-light district, the forbidden love incense "Aizen Kou" has resurfaced, causing anyone who inhales it to fall for the first person they see. Once believed to have been eliminated, this potent substance is once again creating chaos within Yoshiwara. Among those affected is Tsukuyo, the cold-hearted captain of the Hyakka. The first individual she lays eyes on after exposure to the incense is Gintoki Sakata, the bold leader of the Yorozuya. Unknown to others, Tsukuyo had already harbored hidden feelings for Gintoki, now amplified by the incense's effects. As the war temporarily calms down and Edo rebuilds, Gintoki finds Shinpachi—who is still unaware of his return—on a bridge. Following the temporary retreat of the Altana Liberation Army from the Kabuki District, the conflict seemed to be calming down. After their courageous feats at Walter Park, the misfit class returns from summer break to Babyls Demon School, greeted with newfound popularity. However, they also discover that to keep their cherished Royal One classroom, each student must attain Dalet rank by the start of their second year. With the Harvest Festival and Music Festival approaching, there seem to be ample chances to boost their ranks, though no previous class has ever accomplished this feat.
