In "Dekin no Mogura: The Earthbound Mole," university students Kuriaki Magi and Yaeko Kirihara witness a strange event where a man is struck on the head but remains unharmed. When they catch up to him, they learn he is Momoyuki Mogura, a man blessed with immortality. Initially doubtful, Magi and Yaeko start to reconsider as they encounter various apparitions. Mogura explains these are the spirits of the dead that produce demon fire, a luminous phenomenon that guides souls after death. Denied access to this fire, Mogura has spent years collecting spiritual remnants, hoping to eventually join the afterlife. With Magi and Yaeko helping him search for more spirits, Mogura may finally achieve his unusual goal.

Kousuke Mikado has possessed the ability to see spirits since childhood, a power that fills him with dread. To suppress this, he wears glasses in hopes of blocking his sight. One day while working at a bookstore, he attracts the attention of Rihito Hiyakawa, an unusual medium who insists their meeting was fated. Hiyakawa's strange behavior draws Mikado into the supernatural world, offering to help him overcome his fears if he stays close. Together, they investigate a series of sinister curses all linked to one person, Erika Hiura. Their search grows more complicated as they try to understand her motives and her connection to both Mikado and Hiyakawa.

However, fate intervenes when middle schooler Hiyori Iki seemingly sacrifices her life to save Yato from a car crash. While she survives physically, her spirit becomes unstable, causing her soul to detach from her body. Desperate to return to normal, Hiyori insists that Yato fix her condition, a task that requires him to find a new weapon partner. Reluctantly, she agrees to help him in this search, offering a faint glimmer of hope that Yato's luck might finally be turning.
