In fourth grade, otaku Sakamichi Onoda started riding a creaky old bicycle for the 45-kilometer daily round trip between his home in Akihabara and school. Hoping to find like-minded friends in high school to share his interests with, Onoda is let down when he learns that the anime club has been dissolved. One day, Onoda crosses paths with Shunsuke Imaizumi, a tall, athletic first-year student and a natural talent in cycling. Despite their stark differences, Imaizumi picks up on Onoda's unique cycling technique while tackling the school's notorious rear slope and challenges him to a race. This encounter introduces Onoda to the world of competitive cycling for the first time.
