The Hybrid Child is a highly advanced artificial being often mistaken for a doll, capable of learning to read and express emotions. Its growth depends on the love it receives from its owner—the more affection given, the more it flourishes. Kotarou Izumi, an easygoing person, has lived with his Hybrid Child, Hazuki, for ten years, convinced they will always be together. But his life is shaken when Hazuki unexpectedly becomes ill. Through three separate short stories, "Hybrid Child" examines the difficulties faced by both Hybrid Children and their owners.
