A sudden beam petrifies all of humanity across the globe. After thousands of years, the earth is now overrun with vegetation, with ancient cities buried beneath dense forests. Among the first to awaken is Taiju Ooki, who discovers that his genius scientist friend, Senkuu, had anticipated his revival and has plans to restore civilization to its former glory. While Taiju longs to rescue the girl he loves, Senkuu focuses on understanding the cause of the catastrophe and rebuilding society. Their journey takes a turn when they revive Tsukasa Shishiou, a powerful figure intended to help them navigate the dangers of their new world. However, Tsukasa harbors his own ambitions, seeing the current state as an opportunity for a fresh start—free from the corruption and ruin brought by technological advancement. His determination clashes with Senkuu’s unwavering belief in science, leading to an intense conflict between their opposing ideologies.

Background
Dr. Stone won the 64th Shogakukan Manga Award in the Shounen category in 2019. The manga ranked 17th in the 2020 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for the Male Readers division. As a part of the JUMP START initiative, the first three chapters of the manga were published in English in VIZ Media's digital Weekly Shonen Jump on the same day as the Japanese release. After, the series was added to VIZ Media's Weekly Shonen Jump lineup, and it was also simulpub through MANGA Plus. The volumes were published in English by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint from September 4, 2018, to June 3, 2025. It has also been released in Brazilian Portuguese by Panini Comics since September 2018.
