Mittermeyer, Wolfgang

Summary

Wolfgang Mittermeyer serves as a rear admiral in Reinhard’s fleet, standing alongside Oskar von Reuenthal as the commander’s most capable field officers. Born a commoner into a middle-class family, Mittermeyer first crossed paths with Reuenthal during their early postings at fortress Iserlohn, where the two forged a deep friendship. Mittermeyer’s kind and caring nature has long served as a stabilizing influence against Reuenthal’s self-destructive habits. A devoted family man, he married his childhood sweetheart, Evangeline, and remains a committed husband, though their attempts to conceive children have yet to succeed. His humble origins, however, soon became the source of grave danger. After ordering the execution of a subordinate for assaulting, robbing, and murdering a civilian woman, Mittermeyer found himself in perilous territory when the victim’s family was revealed to be a powerful noble house. He was swiftly arrested, and while the nobility conspired to kill him, Reuenthal desperately sought aid from Reinhard von Müsel (later Lohengramm). Reuenthal offered both his own and Mittermeyer’s loyalty in exchange for protection and justice. Reinhard, sharing a well-documented animosity toward the nobility, accepted the deal, leading to both men being transferred under his direct command. Known by the nickname "the gale wolf," Mittermeyer is celebrated for his boldness in battle, his rapid adaptation to shifting battlefield conditions, and his ability to maneuver his fleet over vast distances while maintaining strict organization from his flagship, the Beowulf. As an able strategist and brilliant tactician, he ranks among the finest of his generation. Composed and fair with his subordinates, Mittermeyer exhibits fierce loyalty to Reinhard, driven not only by gratitude for his life being saved but also by a genuine respect for the leader’s capabilities.
