Summary

Lelouch vi Britannia serves as the central protagonist of the Code Geass franchise. As the Eleventh Prince of the Holy Britannian Empire and the son of Emperor Charles zi Britannia, he navigates a complex existence as a student, terrorist, Knightmare pilot, politician, and eventually Emperor. He leads the Order of the Black Knights and pilots several mechs, including the Sutherland, Burai, Gawain, and Shinkirou. Raised in aristocracy, Lelouch is highly intelligent, calm, and sophisticated, though his background fosters a degree of arrogance. At school, he masks his true self by acting as a friendly, easygoing student, but this facade hides a cold, calculating nature. He views academic pursuits as trivial despite his ability to excel, preferring to seek challenges through chess against nobles, whom he despises as tepid parasites. His demeanor is typically stoic and disinterested in daily affairs, often ignoring the romantic affection of classmates like Shirley. However, as the masked revolutionary Zero, his true charisma emerges, allowing him to command trust and respect from soldiers and leaders through his belief in justice. While many perceive Lelouch as entirely selfish, driven by a desire to avenge his mother and create a peaceful world for his sister Nunnally, he eventually recognizes that his ambitions extend to the betterment of the entire world. Beneath his ruthless and calculating exterior, he possesses deep compassion for his friends and loved ones. He is a devoted older brother to Nunnally and maintains a loyal, albeit adversarial, friendship with Suzaku. Although he appears indifferent to his subordinates' well-being, he genuinely values them as essential allies in his cause. Lelouch possesses the Geass ability granted by C.C., known as the Power of Absolute Obedience. This power allows him to implant commands into a target's mind through direct eye contact, functioning similarly to hypnosis. The activation is visually marked by a Geass Sigil appearing in his left eye, with a beam projecting from his eye to the target. Among all Geass abilities in the series, Lelouch's is the most thoroughly explored, carrying the most significant restrictions and side effects.
